The Burnett-Womack Clinical Sciences Building is an existing, 30 year old laboratory and office building located in the heart of the UNC Medical School campus. Consisting of 172,600 square feet over 9 stories, the building was gutted and renovated during 2003-2005. Gregory Walker led the effort to integrate several new research laboratories and a new BL-3 lab, offices, and support spaces into the existing structure, coordinating numerous complicated building systems within a very tight plenum area between floors. The project also includes a new entrance oriented to the existing street and improved accessibility to the surrounding site and neighboring buildings.
