Hightower Library at Gordon State College

Transforming the heart of Gordon State University

Houser Walker Architecture collaborated with Gordon State College to reinvent its library. New windows and an open floor plan transformed the Hightower Library from a repository for books to a hub of student learning and activity. Dark stacks were replaced with light-filled collaborative learning environments, study rooms, and flexible instructional spaces.

The library entry was relocated and expanded to coordinate better with campus flow and become more inviting, intuitive, and accessible. Glass walls at the entry now connect the activity inside the library to a new exterior sitting at the edge of the campus green, making the bustle of activity in the library visible to the rest of campus.
