Decatur, GA HWA was retained to renovate and add onto an existing 2,000 sf, U-shaped courtyard home from 1950, located on a large, tree filled lot. The expanded program included additional spaces for sleep-ing, bathing, and working. HWA also developed a long term master plan, including landscaping, for the entire property. Our proposal includes a set of renovations and additions which will be executed in two phases over a period of two years, as the young family grows.
The first phase, a series of renovations, is currently under construction. The existing house, a wood frame on concrete slab building, was to be stripped to the framing and re-built from the ground up. Existing materials were to be recycled where possible and reconfigured into new areas within the house. Major exterior materials included whitewashed brick, mahogany doors and windows, zinc roofing, and stained cedar siding.
